 300 The Tcl stubs mechanism defines a way to dynamically bind
 301 extensions to a particular Tcl implementation at run time.
 302 the stubs mechanism requires no changes to applications
 303 incorporating Tcl/Tk interpreters.  Only developers creating
 304 C-based Tcl/Tk extensions need to take steps to use the
 305 stubs mechanism with their extensions.

 308 Enabling the stubs mechanism for a Tcl/Tk extension requires the following

 311 Call \fBTcl_InitStubs\fR in the extension before calling any other
 312 Tcl functions.

 317 Define the \fBUSE_TCL_STUBS\fR and the \fBUSE_TK_STUBS\fR
 318 symbols. Typically, you would include the \fB\-DUSE_TCL_STUBS\fR and
 319 the \fB\-DUSE_TK_STUBS\fR flags when compiling the extension.

 321 Link the extension with the Tcl and Tk stubs libraries instead of the
 322 standard Tcl and Tk libraries.  On Unix platforms, the library names
 323 are \fIlibtclstub8.4.a\fR and \fIlibtkstub8.4.a\fR; on Windows
 324 platforms, the library names are \fItclstub84.lib\fR and
 325 \fItkstub84.lib\fR. Adjust the library names with appropriate version
 326 number but note that the extension may only be used with versions of
 327 Tcl/Tk that have that version number or higher.

 330 \fBTk_InitStubs\fR attempts to initialize the Tk stub table pointers
 331 and ensure that the correct version of Tk is loaded.  In addition
 332 to an interpreter handle, it accepts as arguments a version number
 333 and a Boolean flag indicating whether the extension requires
 334 an exact version match or not.  If \fIexact\fR is 0, then the
 335 extension is indicating that newer versions of Tk are acceptable
 336 as long as they have the same major version number as \fIversion\fR;
 337 non-zero means that only the specified \fIversion\fR is acceptable.
 338 \fBTcl_InitStubs\fR returns a string containing the actual version
 339 of Tk satisfying the request, or NULL if the Tk version is not
 340 acceptable, does not support the stubs mechanism, or any other
 341 error condition occurred.
