drm: add drm_core_check_all_features() to check for a mask of features

Add new drm_core_check_all_features() function to check for a mask of
features. All features in the mask are required.

Redefine existing drm_core_check_feature() in terms of this function,

drm: Avoid drm_global_mutex for simple inc/dec of dev->open_count

Since drm_global_mutex is a true global mutex across devices, we don't
want to acquire it unless absolutely necessary. For maintaining the
device local open_count, we can use atomic operations on the counter
itself, except when making the transition to/from 0. Here, we tackle the
easy portion of delaying acquiring the drm_global_mutex for the final
release by using atomic_dec_and_mutex_lock(), leaving the global
serialisation across the device opens.

4 years agodrm: Release filp before global lock
Chris Wilson [Fri, 24 Jan 2020 12:56:26 +0000 (12:56 +0000)]
drm: Release filp before global lock

The file is not part of the global drm resource and can be released
prior to take the global mutex to drop the open_count (and potentially
close) the drm device. As the global mutex is indeed global, not only
within the device but across devices, a slow file release mechanism can
bottleneck the entire system.

However, inside drm_close_helper() there are a number of dev->driver
callbacks that take the drm_device as the first parameter... Worryingly
some of those callbacks may be (implicitly) depending on the global
mutex.

v2: Drop the debug message for the open-count, it's included with the
drm_file_free() debug message -- and for good measure make that up as
reading outside of the mutex.

v3: Separate the calling of the filp cleanup outside of
drm_global_mutex into a new drm_release_noglobal() hook, so that we can
phase the transition. drm/savage relies on the global mutex, and there
may be more, so be cautious.

4 years agodrm/dp_mst: Fix clearing payload state on topology disable
Lyude Paul [Wed, 22 Jan 2020 19:43:20 +0000 (14:43 -0500)]
drm/dp_mst: Fix clearing payload state on topology disable

The issues caused by:

commit 64e62bdf04ab ("drm/dp_mst: Remove VCPI while disabling topology
mgr")

Prompted me to take a closer look at how we clear the payload state in
general when disabling the topology, and it turns out there's actually
two subtle issues here.

The first is that we're not grabbing &mgr.payload_lock when clearing the
payloads in drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst(). Seeing as the canonical
lock order is &mgr.payload_lock -> &mgr.lock (because we always want
&mgr.lock to be the inner-most lock so topology validation always
works), this makes perfect sense. It also means that -technically- there
could be racing between someone calling
drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst() to disable the topology, along with a
modeset occurring that's modifying the payload state at the same time.

The second is the more obvious issue that Wayne Lin discovered, that
we're not clearing proposed_payloads when disabling the topology.

I actually can't see any obvious places where the racing caused by the
first issue would break something, and it could be that some of our
higher-level locks already prevent this by happenstance, but better safe
then sorry. So, let's make it so that drm_dp_mst_topology_mgr_set_mst()
first grabs &mgr.payload_lock followed by &mgr.lock so that we never
race when modifying the payload state. Then, we also clear
proposed_payloads to fix the original issue of enabling a new topology
with a dirty payload state. This doesn't clear any of the drm_dp_vcpi
structures, but those are getting destroyed along with the ports anyway.

Changes since v1:
* Use sizeof(mgr->payloads[0])/sizeof(mgr->proposed_vcpis[0]) instead -

Arnd Bergmann [Wed, 8 Jan 2020 13:51:05 +0000 (14:51 +0100)]
drm: panel: fix excessive stack usage in td028ttec1_prepare

With gcc -O3 in combination with the structleak plug, the compiler can
inline very aggressively, leading to rather large stack usage:

drivers/gpu/drm/panel/panel-tpo-td028ttec1.c: In function 'td028ttec1_prepare':
drivers/gpu/drm/panel/panel-tpo-td028ttec1.c:233:1: error: the frame size of 2768 bytes is larger than 2048 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=]
 }

Marking jbt_reg_write_*() as noinline avoids the case where
multiple instances of this function get inlined into the same
stack frame and each one adds a copy of 'tx_buf'.

The compiler is clearly making some bad decisions here, but I
did not open a new bug report as this only happens in combination
with the structleak plugin.

This fixes mmtom ("init/Kconfig: enable -O3 for all arches")

drm/connector: Split out orientation quirk detection (v2)

Not every platform needs quirk detection for panel orientation, so
split the drm_connector_init_panel_orientation_property into two
functions. One for platforms without the need for quirks, and the
other for platforms that need quirks.

Hans de Goede (changes in v2):

Rename the function from drm_connector_init_panel_orientation_property
to drm_connector_set_panel_orientation[_with_quirk] and pass in the
panel-orientation to set.

Beside the rename, also make the function set the passed in value
only once, if the value was set before (to a value other then
DRM_MODE_PANEL_ORIENTATION_UNKNOWN) make any further set calls a no-op.

This change is preparation for allowing the user to override the
panel-orientation for any connector from the kernel commandline.
When the panel-orientation is overridden this way, then we must ignore
the panel-orientation detection done by the driver.

4 years agodt-bindings: one binding file for all simple panels
Sam Ravnborg [Thu, 2 Jan 2020 10:17:11 +0000 (11:17 +0100)]
dt-bindings: one binding file for all simple panels

There is an increasing number of new simple panels.
Common for many of these simple panels are that they have one
mandatory power-supply and some of them have backlight and / or
an enable gpio.

The binding file to describe these panels adds overhead
that really do not add value.
The binding are known and there is nothing gained from a
dedicated binding file nor for any dedicated example.

The following patch introduces a single panel-simple.yaml
and converts two ampire bindings over to the new file.

The conversion - if applied will have following effects:

- The maintainer for the individual file will change
There is no need for many different maintainers for a simple binding.
We have the same situation with the panel-simple driver in the kernel.

- The license will change to (GPL-2.0-only OR BSD-2-Clause)
There is usually only a single line copied from the original
file, a line that is often copied from a datasheet.
This license change should be acceptable considered what little
    is copied.
If the license change is not OK we can use a dedicated binding
    file in these cases.

This is a follow-up on Rob's big patch converting a lot of panel bindings
to individual files:

"dt-bindings: display: Convert a bunch of panels to DT schema"
https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/1197683/

The objectives with one file for the relevant simple panels are:
- Make it simpler to add bindings for simple panels
- Keep the number of bindings file lower and thus easier to find a
relevant file to copy from when adding new panels.
- Keep the binding documentation for simple panels more consistent
- Make it simpler to add support for new panels

drm/omapdrm: use BUG_ON macro for error debugging.

Since the if statement only checks for the value of the `id` variable,
it can be replaced by the more concise BUG_ON() macro for error
reporting.

drm: meson: fix address type confusion

Casting a pointer to dma_addr_t produces a warning:

In this case, it's worse because the variable name has the suffix
'_phys', which often indicates a phys_addr_t rather than dma_addr_t,
i.e. yet another incompatible type.

Change it to use consistent naming and avoid NULL.

drm/exynos: dsi: Fix bridge chain handling

Commit 05193dc38197 ("drm/bridge: Make the bridge chain a double-linked

of a single-linked list. This change induced changes to the Exynos driver
which was manually resetting the encoder->bridge element to NULL to
control the enable/disable sequence of the bridge chain. During this
conversion, 2 bugs were introduced:

1/ list_splice() was used to move chain elements to our own internal
chain, but list_splice() does not reset the source list to an empty
state, leading to unexpected bridge hook calls when
drm_bridge_chain_xxx() helpers were called by the core. Replacing
the list_splice() call by list_splice_init() fixes this problem.

2/ drm_bridge_chain_xxx() helpers operate on the
bridge->encoder->bridge_chain list, which is now empty. When the
helper uses list_for_each_entry_reverse() we end up with no operation
done which is not what we want. But that's even worse when the helper
uses list_for_each_entry_from(), because in that case we end up in
an infinite loop searching for the list head element which is no
longer encoder->bridge_chain but exynos_dsi->bridge_chain. To address
