added in 2012 so just get rid of it and update mips_get_syscall_arg's
return type since none of the return values are ever checked. If it is

does not check that the node is compatible with "syscon", and won't

The rationale behind this, is that one device node with a standard
compatible string "foo, bar" can be covered by multiple drivers sharing a
regmap, or by a single driver doing all the job without a regmap, but

4 years agodoc: Add doc for the Ingenic TCU hardware
Paul Cercueil [Wed, 24 Jul 2019 17:16:04 +0000 (13:16 -0400)]
doc: Add doc for the Ingenic TCU hardware

Add documentation about the Timer/Counter Unit (TCU) present in the
Ingenic JZ47xx SoCs.

The Timer/Counter Unit (TCU) in Ingenic JZ47xx SoCs is a multi-function
hardware block. It features up to to eight channels, that can be used as
counters, timers, or PWM.

- JZ4725B, JZ4750, JZ4755 only have six TCU channels. The other SoCs all
  have eight channels.

- JZ4725B introduced a separate channel, called Operating System Timer
(OST). It is a 32-bit programmable timer. On JZ4770 and above, it is
  64-bit.

- Each one of the TCU channels has its own clock, which can be reparented
to three different clocks (pclk, ext, rtc), gated, and reclocked, through
  their TCSR register.
  * The watchdog and OST hardware blocks also feature a TCSR register with
the same format in their register space.
  * The TCU registers used to gate/ungate can also gate/ungate the watchdog
    and OST clocks.

- Each TCU channel works in one of two modes:
  * mode TCU1: channels cannot work in sleep mode, but are easier to
    operate.
  * mode TCU2: channels can work in sleep mode, but the operation is a bit
more complicated than with TCU1 channels.

- The mode of each TCU channel depends on the SoC used:
  * On the oldest SoCs (up to JZ4740), all of the eight channels operate in
    TCU1 mode.
  * On JZ4725B, channel 5 operates as TCU2, the others operate as TCU1.
  * On newest SoCs (JZ4750 and above), channels 1-2 operate as TCU2, the
    others operate as TCU1.

- Each channel can generate an interrupt. Some channels share an interrupt
line, some don't, and this changes between SoC versions:
  * on older SoCs (JZ4740 and below), channel 0 and channel 1 have their
own interrupt line; channels 2-7 share the last interrupt line.
  * On JZ4725B, channel 0 has its own interrupt; channels 1-5 share one
interrupt line; the OST uses the last interrupt line.
  * on newer SoCs (JZ4750 and above), channel 5 has its own interrupt;
    channels 0-4 and (if eight channels) 6-7 all share one interrupt line;
the OST uses the last interrupt line.

MIPS: qi_lb60: Migrate to devicetree

Move all the platform data to devicetree.

The only bit dropped is the PWM beeper, which requires the PWM driver
to be updated. I figured it's okay to remove it here since it's really
a non-critical device, and it'll be re-introduced soon enough.

The other change is the CS line of the SPI is now set as active low. The
SPI core would have forced "active low" anyway, unless the 'spi-cs-high'
property is set.

In the process of moving to devicetree, we also switched to new drivers:
- We use the simple-audio-card and simple-amplifier drivers instead of
  the custom ASoC code;
- We use the new Ingenic DRM driver coupled with the GiantPlus GPM940B0
  DRM panel driver instead of the old framebuffer driver;
- We use the new jz4780-dma driver instead of the old jz4740-dma one;
- We use the ingenic-nand and jz4740-ecc drivers instead of the old

Daniel Silsby [Mon, 15 Jul 2019 21:40:00 +0000 (17:40 -0400)]
MIPS: Add partial 32-bit huge page support

This adds initial support for huge pages to 32-bit MIPS systems.
Systems with extended addressing enabled (EVA,XPA,Alchemy/Netlogic)
are not yet supported.
With huge pages enabled, this implementation will increase page table
memory overhead to match that of a 64-bit MIPS system. However, the
cache-friendliness of page table walks is not affected significantly.

Daniel Silsby [Mon, 15 Jul 2019 21:39:59 +0000 (17:39 -0400)]
MIPS: Disallow CPU_SUPPORTS_HUGEPAGES for XPA,EVA

In preparation for 32-bit MIPS huge page support.

EVA,XPA are extended-addressing modes for 32-bit MIPS systems. Because
huge pages aren't currently supported in 32-bit MIPS, this doesn't take
any features away from EVA,XPA-enabled systems. However, the soon-to-
come 32-bit MIPS huge page support doesn't yet support them.

This also disables CPU_SUPPORTS_HUGEPAGES for the small number of 32-bit
MIPS CPUs from Alchemy/Netlogic that support a custom 36-bit extended
addressing. It's unknown if they even support huge pages in hardware.

Merge branch 'sched-urgent-for-linus' of git://git./linux/kernel/git/tip/tip

Pull CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT stub config from Thomas Gleixner:
"The real-time preemption patch set exists for almost 15 years now and
while the vast majority of infrastructure and enhancements have found
their way into the mainline kernel, the final integration of RT is
  still missing.

Over the course of the last few years, we have worked on reducing the
intrusivenness of the RT patches by refactoring kernel infrastructure
to be more real-time friendly. Almost all of these changes were
benefitial to the mainline kernel on their own, so there was no
  objection to integrate them.

Though except for the still ongoing printk refactoring, the remaining
changes which are required to make RT a first class mainline citizen
are not longer arguable as immediately beneficial for the mainline
kernel. Most of them are either reordering code flows or adding RT
  specific functionality.

But this now has hit a wall and turned into a classic hen and egg
  problem:

Maintainers are rightfully wary vs. these changes as they make only
sense if the final integration of RT into the mainline kernel takes
     place.

Adding CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT aims to solve this as a clear sign that RT
will be fully integrated into the mainline kernel. The final
integration of the missing bits and pieces will be of course done with
the same careful approach as we have used in the past.

While I'm aware that you are not entirely enthusiastic about that, I
think that RT should receive the same treatment as any other widely
used out of tree functionality, which we have accepted into mainline
  over the years.

RT has become the de-facto standard real-time enhancement and is
shipped by enterprise, embedded and community distros. It's in use
throughout a wide range of industries: telecommunications, industrial
automation, professional audio, medical devices, data acquisition,
automotive - just to name a few major use cases.

RT development is backed by a Linuxfoundation project which is
supported by major stakeholders of this technology. The funding will
continue over the actual inclusion into mainline to make sure that the
functionality is neither introducing regressions, regressing itself,
nor becomes subject to bitrot. There is also a lifely user community
around RT as well, so contrary to the grim situation 5 years ago, it's
  a healthy project.

As RT is still a good vehicle to exercise rarely used code paths and
to detect hard to trigger issues, you could at least view it as a QA
  tool if nothing else"

x86/entry/64: Prevent clobbering of saved CR2 value

The recent fix for CR2 corruption introduced a new way to reliably corrupt
the saved CR2 value.

CR2 is saved early in the entry code in RDX, which is the third argument to
the fault handling functions. But it missed that between saving and
invoking the fault handler enter_from_user_mode() can be called. RDX is a
caller saved register so the invoked function can freely clobber it with
the obvious consequences.

The TRACE_IRQS_OFF call is safe as it calls through the thunk which
preserves RDX, but TRACE_IRQS_OFF_DEBUG is not because it also calls into
C-code outside of the thunk.

Store CR2 in R12 instead which is a callee saved register and move R12 to
RDX just before calling the fault handler.

KVM: nVMX: do not use dangling shadow VMCS after guest reset

If a KVM guest is reset while running a nested guest, free_nested will
disable the shadow VMCS execution control in the vmcs01.  However,
on the next KVM_RUN vmx_vcpu_run would nevertheless try to sync
the VMCS12 to the shadow VMCS which has since been freed.

This causes a vmptrld of a NULL pointer on my machime, but Jan reports
the host to hang altogether.  Let's see how much this trivial patch fixes.

KVM: x86/vPMU: refine kvm_pmu err msg when event creation failed

If a perf_event creation fails due to any reason of the host perf
subsystem, it has no chance to log the corresponding event for guest
which may cause abnormal sampling data in guest result. In debug mode,
this message helps to understand the state of vPMC and we may not
limit the number of occurrences but not in a spamming style.

Wanpeng Li [Thu, 18 Jul 2019 11:39:06 +0000 (19:39 +0800)]
KVM: Boost vCPUs that are delivering interrupts

Inspired by commit 9cac38dd5d (KVM/s390: Set preempted flag during
vcpu wakeup and interrupt delivery), we want to also boost not just
lock holders but also vCPUs that are delivering interrupts. Most
smp_call_function_many calls are synchronous, so the IPI target vCPUs
are also good yield candidates.  This patch introduces vcpu->ready to
boost vCPUs during wakeup and interrupt delivery time; unlike s390 we do
not reuse vcpu->preempted so that voluntarily preempted vCPUs are taken
into account by kvm_vcpu_on_spin, but vmx_vcpu_pi_put is not affected
(VT-d PI handles voluntary preemption separately, in pi_pre_block).
