  21 ftpusers \- list of users that may not log in via the FTP daemon
  22 .SH DESCRIPTION
  23 The text file
  24 .B ftpusers
  25 contains a list of users that may not log in using the
  26 File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server daemon.
  27 This file is used not merely for
  28 system administration purposes but for improving security within a TCP/IP
  29 networked environment.
  30 It will typically contain a list of the users that
  31 either have no business using ftp or have too many privileges to be allowed
  32 to log in through the FTP server daemon.
  33 Such users usually include root, daemon, bin, uucp, and news.
  34 If your FTP server daemon doesn't use
  35 .BR ftpusers ,
  36 then it is suggested that you read its documentation to find out how to
  37 block access for certain users.
  38 Washington University FTP server Daemon
  39 (wuftpd) and Professional FTP Daemon (proftpd) are known to make use of
  40 .BR ftpusers .
  41 .SS Format
  42 The format of
  43 .B ftpusers
  44 is very simple.
  45 There is one account name (or username) per line.
  46 Lines starting with a # are ignored.
